At Burton Agnes our vision is to give children a Science curriculum which enables them to explore and discover the world around them, confidently, so that they have a deeper understanding of the world we live in. To achieve this we plan exciting, practical hands on experiences that encourage curiosity and questioning and enable children to secure and extend their scientific knowledge and vocabulary

We believe that these opportunities will ensure that our children are confident, life-long learners who will explore the world around them.

Science is taught within our long term plan of topics. As part of our science teaching, pupils are given the opportunity to develop the following skills and processes:

• Observe and measure

• Classify and conclude

• Identify patterns and

relationships

• Make predictions and explain

results

• Devise and carry out

investigations

• Handle equipment and a wide

range of materials safely and effectively.

 

Science topics focus on the following main areas:

• Working scientifically

• Life process – plants, animals and humans

• Physical Processes

• Materials and their Properties

Children are encouraged to use scientific vocabulary and understand it.  Links are made to previous learning and knowledge is built on
